Porter
Consulting and Arizona State University (ASU)
began working together in the Fall 2003. Initially,
Porter Consulting was engaged to complete food
service market research on campus and to develop
recommendations for future meal plans, based on
the findings gathered on campus. The University's
goals for this project were twofold:
- To expand its on-campus
housing to ensure that University Dining Services
could generate the necessary funds to support
the improvement of existing dining venues and
the development of future ones and
- To ensure that the on-campus
residential experience would continue to be
meaningful. To that end, Porter developed new
meal plan program options for all campus constituents
to help the University meet its goals.
Upon completion,
ASU asked Porter Consulting to conduct another
survey, this time of peer institutions to see
how ASU’s offerings compared to those offered
at similar institutions. The results of the second
survey gave ASU insight into how they measured
up, and where specific services ranked for potential
students. Porter Consulting continued to work
with ASU to develop a critical issues phasing
plan and collect feedback from key stakeholders
regarding the recommended plan.
